I’m originally from Anchorage, Alaska and I completed my Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts at St. John’s College in Santa Fé, NM. I’m a Masters of Public Health student at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, GA. In May 2011, I married my beautiful, supporting wife, Brittany. Over the summer of 2011, we spent 6 weeks in Cambodia teaching HIV/AIDS education to street children in Cambodia.
I did not become interested in public health until my senior year at SJC. At that point, I wanted to pursue a career in medicine, specifically as a physician. It was not until I read Max Planck’s Eight Lectures on Theoretical Physics in my senior laboratory class where my interest in public health grew. Max Planck uses an analogy of macro and micro views to explain atomic theory. In order to understand the micro view, we need to know the macro view because, while they explain the same phenomena, they both have a different perspective. After reading Planck’s essay, I applied the macro and micro interpretations to my health care career goals and decided I wanted to understand the macro interpretation of health care.
My health care career focus has been on, but not limited to: fundraising, nonprofit start-up, program management, military health, and using technology to help nonprofits reach their goals.
I still would like to become a physician, but right now, I am throughly enjoying my studies in public health and look forward to working in the field for a while.
Outside of my healthcare interest, I love ice hockey. I grew up playing ice hockey and follow my local minor league team and various other major league teams. I also love to travel with my wife. Before we were married and during our undergraduate breaks, you could find us together on plane jetting off somewhere or in our car criss-crossing the country. I also enjoy conversations over a good cup of coffee.
